In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI), as reported by news agency PTI, has issued transfer orders for non-cadre officers who are currently posted in leadership positions as District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) across Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha, and West Bengal. These transfers include district police chiefs who are relatives of prominent politicians, as well as DMs who have been promoted to IAS but are not from the direct cadre, specifically affecting Purba Medinipur, Jhargram, Purna Bardhaman, and Birbhum districts. The decision impacts a total of 8 non-cadre SPs/SSPs and 5 non-cadre DMs in these states.
