Bengaluru experienced its wettest June day in 133 years on June 2, 2024, with a record-breaking rainfall of 111.1 mm, surpassing the previous record of 101.6 mm set on June 16, 1891. The intense thunderstorms and strong winds led to the uprooting of several trees and the falling of branches from around 500 trees, causing significant disruptions. Metro services on the Purple Line were particularly affected, with operations halted between Indranagar and Whitefield, and between MG Road and Challaghatta, due to a tree branch falling on the track near Trinity Station. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is working to clear the debris and restore normal operations. Additionally, water-logging was reported at 58 locations across the city. According to Civil Defence, the disruption occurred on Sunday.
