A 46-year-old air hostess from Bengal has alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a hospital staff member while on ventilator support in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram on April 6. She was in a semi-conscious state and unable to speak or resist at the time of the alleged assault. Two nurses were reportedly present in the room but did not intervene. The woman had come to Gurugram for a training session and was initially treated at another hospital after nearly drowning in a swimming pool. Her husband admitted her to Medanta Hospital on April 5. The alleged incident occurred the following day. After being discharged on April 13, the air hostess informed her husband about the incident. A formal complaint was filed at the Sadar Police Station on April 14, and an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Her statement has been recorded before a magistrate. Gurugram Police have launched an investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage and questioning hospital staff. The hospital, through a statement by Dr. Sanjay Durani, Medical Superintendent, has denied the allegations at this stage but stated it is fully cooperating with authorities and has provided all relevant documents and CCTV footage to the police. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and requested a report on the action taken.
