The Washington Capitals hosted the Vegas Golden Knights in a game where the Capitals led 1-0 after the first period. The Capitals survived a 5-minute power play after an illegal check to the head of Evgeny Kuznetsov by Paul Cotter. The game ended with the Capitals winning 1-0. Lindgren made key saves, and the Knights had several scoring chances but couldn't convert. The Capitals outshot the Knights 26-22. Kuznetsov was initially injured but returned to the game after the hit.

The Capitals didn't score on their first power play, but they played much better after it and take lead into first intermission. Also helped to get glove saves from Lindgren on Barbashev and Karlsson on breakaways.
