Tyler Motte is expected to join the Tampa Bay Lightning for their road trip and play at some point. However, he will not be playing in the upcoming game against Columbus. The team will need to make a roster move to activate him off injured reserve. Coach Jon Cooper mentioned that there will be some decisions to be made regarding the roster. The Lightning have been struggling to find success on the road and Cooper emphasized the importance of playing a complete game. The team is frustrated with their recent losses and the lack of pushback in games. On the other hand, Jim Montgomery, coach of the opposing team, praised his team's ability to find ways to win. The Washington Capitals are also struggling to score 5-on-5 goals, which is a concern for coach Spencer Carbery.
Taylor Morin “We had that game won.”
Caps coach Spencer Carbery said that though they created chances again, "You can’t just keep chalking it up, ‘Oh, at some point.’ We’re in game 9 and we’re not scoring 5-on-5 at all. So, why? That’s not a small sample size. That’s not 2 games. That’s not 3 games. That’s 9 games."
Cooper on what it takes for a team to shift the momentum back in their favor: “The fact we just didn’t have push back was really disappointing and I know we gave up the first goal but we pushed pretty well there in the second period and there's no reason we couldn't push like… https://t.co/0UXrDASUef
Jim Montgomery: “We have a lot to get better at, but we just find ways to win. It was a really good hockey game in the third period.”
Stamkos: "Sometimes I feel like we lose the identity of our team. We've got to figure that out. We've been put in those positions a lot over the years of having the lead in the third & knowing what do...Ultimately, we didn't play the game that we needed to to close that out."
Jon Cooper on the loss: “We are just finding ways to lose games. That’s it. That was a nothing game. That should have been easy and over”
Cooper: "We just didn't have any push. We really haven't taken penalties all year and we found a way to take three in the third. You want to give yourself a chance to lose, those are some of the things that we're doing that's why we're losing games."
Cooper: "I know we gave up the first goal, but we pushed pretty well there in the second period and there's no reason we couldn't push like that again. One team came out and wanted to win the game and one team came out in the third and found a way to lose it. That's why there's… https://t.co/XxJOWaj6Ey
Carbery sounded frustrated about the #Caps’ lack of 5v5 offense: “It just hasn’t clicked for us yet this year…But you can’t just keep chalking it up to, ‘Oh, at some point.’ We’re at Game *9* and we’re not scoring 5 on 5 at all. So, why? That’s not a small sample size.”
Cooper: " You play 55 minutes of hockey and you play five minutes of not so good and it's burning us. I said it earlier. You've got to play a complete game and we are not doing that. If you're not going to do that on the road, you're going to have no chance of winning."
Jon Cooper: "We're just finding ways to lose games. That's it."
The #GoBolts assigning defenseman Haydn Fleury to AHL Syracuse on a conditioning assignment today doesn't create space to add Tyler Motte. He remains on the active NHL roster, so the #TBLightning still need to create space for Motte to be activated from injured reserve.
Cooper on playing on the road: "This is our second trip on the road, some big ones here against all the east, three of them are against division opponents and we just can't be waiting until the third game to score with 10 seconds left to salvage a point on the trip. A lot of that… https://t.co/sUTT2Jmg5d
Cooper on finding success on the road: “Winning on the road is tough. You have to simplify your game and you have to play it for the full 60. If you do that, you can take your chances on winning the game. For us, we go on a road trip early in the year, still trying to find… https://t.co/AGxhqXrhuQ
Cooper on what type of roster decision the #Bolts will have to make when Tyler Motte returns, which is expected to be at some point during this road trip: “A good one. We don’t want to lose anybody but you want to be able to put your best foot forward and so, naturally, there… https://t.co/70ewGAPhrV
Cooper didn't reveal roster moves for Motte's return: "We don't want to lose anybody but you want to be able to put your best foot forward. Naturally, there will be some decisions to be made, but we don't have to make them right this second. Usually, that stuff plays itself out."
Jon Cooper on the status of Tyler Motte, who skated in a regular jersey today: “We’ll see him on the road trip. Not tomorrow though”
Jon Cooper said Tyler Motte will join the team for the road trip and is expected to play at some point, though that won’t be tomorrow in Columbus. A roster move would need to be made to activate him off IR #GoBolts #TBLightning
