Yanni Gourde, forward for the Seattle Kraken, has been wearing a neck guard during morning skates. He acknowledged that he is still getting used to the material but sees the need for added protection. It was uncertain if he would wear it during the evening game. Additionally, Claude Giroux and Josh Norris, forwards for the Ottawa Senators, have also opted to wear neck guards. Both players wore the neck protection during a game in Ottawa. Gourde eventually decided to wear the neck protection during the game, becoming the first Kraken player to do so.
