The San Jose Sharks have been officially eliminated from playoff contention for the 5th consecutive season after a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite a strong start, the Sharks fell to the Penguins 6-3, with Klim Kostin scoring his first goal for the Sharks. The Penguins ended a 4-game losing streak with this win.
Drew O'Connor: "It’s obviously been a struggle to score goals the last few. Wo to score six, I think, feels pretty good. But just feels good to get back in the win column, I think."

Make that 6-3 Penguins after Bryan Rust scores an empty-netter! That stands as the final score. A much-needed burst offensively - for results and confidence - after Pittsburgh was held to one goal or less in five of their last six games entering tonight.
Two goals in two minutes as the Penguins take a 5-3 lead. Third periods have been deadly to San Jose on this trip so far.
Klim Kostin, first goal as a Shark, ties it 3-3. Two point game so far for him.
Klim Kostin! His first goal as a #SJSharks
While the Pens were robbed of a goal, credit to #SJSharks, per @SPORTLOGiQ, they dominated the 1st at even strength, 8-3 Slot Shots, 5-2 High-Danger. There's a reason why their fans have turned on them, for a team on a skid, terrible response
Marc-Edouard Vlasic gets one in the last minute to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead going into the intermission. Tough start and tough finish to that period for the Penguins.
Vlasic gives the #SJSharks the lead!
Pittsburgh takes a 1-0 lead with 9:32 left in the first, shortly after the Sharks go back to full strength!
After the Sharks tilted the ice in the first few minutes, the Penguins got a power play of their own... and Mikael Granlund rang one off the post on a shorthanded chance.
Lots of jump from the Sharks to start this one. On the power play now. Sharks, I think, were reminded of that 10-2 drubbing in November.
The Sharks draw a penalty at the end of a lengthy offensive zone shift. P.O Joseph was stuck out there the longest, for two full minutes. San Jose to the power play less than four minutes in.
The Sharks just dominated the first four minutes in disturbing ways.
Given the way San Jose has dominated the early minutes of this game, the Sharks must be a serious Cup contender, right?
