Following the on-ice death of Adam Johnson, several players from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals have started wearing neck guards during practice. Penguins coach Mike Sullivan strongly encourages players to wear protective equipment in vulnerable areas. There have also been moments of silence held to honor Johnson's memory before NHL games.
