The final horn sounds and the #Canes come up short in Jake Guentzel's return to Pittsburgh, 4-1. Alex Nedeljkovic stops 39 out of 40 shots in net for the Penguins. Carolina is back in action on Thursday night at home against Detroit.
One of those games where you outshoot the other team but just one of those games where it didn’t go your way A 4-1 game was really 2-1 if you remove the ENG #Canes had 40 SOG compared to the Pens 22 All you can do is get ready for the Red Wings on Thursday at home #CauseChaos
Third period time. Trailing by one, I'm eager to see what kind of pushback the #Canes have as they return to the ice. Jake Guentzel's been firing it tonight, with a game-high six shots through 40 minutes.
40 minutes down, 20 (or more) to go. 2-1. After a sleepy start to the night, scoring sparked some life into the contest. Things were trending in Carolina's direction after they evened the contest, but now they'll have to find a response to Pittsburgh's late go-ahead goal.
4:46 left in the second and the #Canes have certainly got to more of their game here as the period has progressed. Basically since Pittsburgh's goal, it's felt like things have really gone in the right direction for them.
The Canes have been pushing back hard since giving up the first goal. Ned's been busy.
Our second period is underway. It doesn't feel likely that we'll have another quiet period, but who knows? It was a 2-1 final when the two teams faced off in the Steel City earlier this season.
Done with 20 minutes in Pittsburgh. Scoreless. Somewhat of a low-event period. Pittsburgh had two opportunities on the power play, but the #Canes penalty kill shut down both.
