Don Sweeney, general manager of an NHL team, advocates for on-ice officials to face questions from a designated pool reporter after games, similar to the NFL's practice. Sweeney emphasizes the need for accountability and transparency in officiating decisions, particularly regarding controversial plays in playoff games. He urges the NHL to improve communication with the media and fans by having officials address key plays and provide explanations.
"Put the officials in front of the microphone." Don Sweeney said there needs to be accountability. But should he have been more forceful with his comments to the media yesterday? @_TimRosenthal https://t.co/aeId6Z5qvw https://t.co/MOzZ2ajWtH
NHL on-ice officials should obviously be asked questions after every game by a designated pool reporter. I'm glad Don Sweeney advocated for it. It's long overdue.
Does Don Sweeney want to speak to the league for the media then? Because we've tried and they won't let this happen. So stop blaming us for asking the only people we can ask! @BOSHockeyNow https://t.co/FsQIjnStmz

Sweeney is right here. The NHL should have a pool reporter ask officials about key plays, at minimum for playoff games, just like the NFL does for all of its regular season games. https://t.co/dCWvO1E30a
Sweeney essentially says Department of Player Safety needs to say what happened on Bennett-Marchand play. “We’ve seen every possible angle.”
Sweeney says we are not supposed to ask Montgomery about officiating. Says we need to talk to league, officiating supervisor. Sweeney is basically saying NHL needs to put officials in front of mics in not so many words.
