Several journalists have been laid off from prominent media outlets, including The Intercept and The Athletic. The Intercept faced criticism for allegedly becoming more partisan and less adversarial. Journalists expressed solidarity with those affected by the layoffs, highlighting the importance of investigative journalism and the impact of talented individuals on media organizations.
Editors rarely get the credit they deserve, and Lauren deserves so much. She was instrumental in making @TheAthleticCHI what it was. She made us better writers. Most importantly, she put up with my brainstorming calls, editing articles about the 2017 Bears, and @jon_greenberg. https://t.co/61dMMOU5dU
Not only was @laurencomitor a great editor, she was employee #4 at The Athletic, back when it was one city, and played a big role in what it's grown into. Congrats on the yet-to-be-announced new thing and thank you for putting up with me and @DanHayesMLB. https://t.co/rRlO3RYWgK
The Athletic doesn't make it through those first years without Lauren. Her talent, work ethic and patience has always been so impressive and inspiring. https://t.co/LFe5TVB0dI
So…today is my last day at The Athletic. It has been a truly incredible eight years, and I’m so grateful for the experience, but most of all the people. Working with some of the most talented editors and writers in the business was something I’ll never take for granted.
Layoffs suck all around but it particularly stings to see investigative journalists let go. Solidarity everyone laid off from the Intercept.
Congrats to long time sports journalist, @TroyRenck, who has been on the pulse of Colorado’s biggest sports stories for years. Well earned! https://t.co/yVtn1zhfYI
The Intercept was founded as a free speech champion designed to stand apart from elite media, but ended up losing its soul under in the melt down over Trump. They supported censoring as long as doing so was for “leftist” causes, supported riots and looting that targeted…
There are still good journalists at the Intercept, including ones I’m proud to have played a role in hiring. But Betsy Reed and Roger Hodge — who weren’t part of the founding — degraded it into yet another partisan outlet more subservient than adversarial to DNC and CIA. Hence: https://t.co/yKTVR3fAzu
I've just been laid off from The Intercept after 7 years of working across various editorial positions and I'm so proud of the work I've done. I can't imagine how painful it would be if I *wasn't* axed along with my comrades today — in a way, I am grateful to be leaving. https://t.co/blcINBN5oX
No surprise @byalexcoffey did a fantastic job with this piece. The Inquirer has a lot of great journalists, but I don't think there's a better storyteller than Alex. Made me think about how lucky I was to cover Speedy's last game for @hooplove215 in 2020: https://t.co/DpIV1ecOlk https://t.co/j9THO5q1U7
