During a recent hockey game, an incident occurred where Brett Howden of the Vegas Golden Knights was penalized for charging after a hit on Simon Nemec of the New Jersey Devils, who was left laying face down on the ice and required attention from a trainer. The play, which initially appeared severe enough to warrant a five-minute major penalty, was reviewed and subsequently downgraded to a two-minute minor. In response to the hit, Kevin Bahl of the New Jersey Devils received a roughing penalty for going after Howden. As a result, the game proceeded with both teams playing 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes. The situation began when no penalty was called on the play, but after review, the officials decided to impose the minor penalties in the same game.
In the end, Howden gets a minor for charging, Bahl of NJ gets a minor for roughing. We're 4 on 4 and Howden's lucky he's not sitting longer.
Brett Howden was initially called for a major, but after review they reduced it to a minor. NJ is given a matching minor, 4-on-4 hockey. Very lucky for Vegas. That hit looked late and high to me, but Howden’s elbow might’ve hit Nemek’s neck/shoulders, rather than his head.
Howden is getting two minutes for charging. Kevin Bahl is getting two minutes for roughing. So, 4v4 for two minutes upcoming. The progression was no penalty called on the play. To reviewing it for a five-minute major, to reducing the penalty to a two-minute minor.
VGK appear to have come out of that quite fortunately. Clearly a penalty on Howden (didn't think it was a major) but they get to play 4-on-4 with the retaliation penalty.
Howden gets a minor penalty for charging. Bahl gets a penalty too. 4 vs. 4.
Howden will get a minor for charging on that play. And Kevin Bahl will get a penalty for going after Howden as well. So we're going to 4v4. #NJDevils
It's a minor for charging. Bahl, who defended Nemec, is in the box for roughing. 4-on-4 for 2:00. #NJDevils https://t.co/64494NfcGM
Brett Howden catches Simon Nemec almost in the back of the neck/shoulder blades. It was a hard contact, to say the least. #NJDevils
Big hit from Howden on Nemec. Haula goes after Howden. Play is under review. Though there wasn’t a call initially.
Simon Nemec is laying face down on the ice after taking a massive hit near the end boards. He's being looked at by a trainer. #NJDevils
Oh no. Simon Nemec down on the ice and can't get up. #NJDevils
