Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler has been placed on injured reserve after blocking a shot by Colton Parayko with his left foot, causing significant pain and requiring assistance to leave the ice. Despite the injury, Seeler returned to the ice for the third period but was visibly testing his foot and left late in the third period, not taking a shift after the 9-minute mark. Amidst this, the Flyers are making progress on a contract extension for Seeler, indicating his value to the team both on and off the ice. Reports suggest a potential 3-4 year extension with an average annual value of $3.33 million. The situation around Seeler has sparked discussions on asset management and the Flyers' strategy as the trade deadline approaches, with speculation about trading Seeler or Sean Walker, another defenseman. However, Seeler's injury and the ongoing contract negotiations may impact these plans. In response to Seeler's injury, the Flyers have called up Adam Ginning from Lehigh Valley. Meanwhile, Sean Walker has been traded for a 1st round pick and a young prospect.
Nick Seeler on IR. He'll miss at least the rest of the week. Contract extension nearing? https://t.co/X8YiuqfLFd
3-4 years: $3.33M AAV for Nick Seeler. #LetsGoFlyers https://t.co/Z3R0e3CDQ1
The Flyers have telegraphed since January that all things considered, they wanted to re-sign Seeler. Purely from an asset management standpoint, it makes more sense to trade him (30 going on 31, selling high). But they feel he's integral to the culture they're trying to foster.
As @DarrenDreger reported, #Flyers are making progress on an extension with defenseman Nick Seeler. But he's going to miss a couple weeks of action after blocking a shot against #stlblues on Monday night.
The Flyers have put Nick Seeler on IR. He's an obvious trade target, unless they re-sign him.
The @NHLFlyers have place defenseman and trade deadline conversation piece Nick Seeler on injured reserve with a lower body injury.
Nick Seeler has been placed on injured reserve. He blocked a shot to the area of his left ankle/foot. Flyers have called up Adam Ginning from Lehigh Valley.
The Flyers continue to make progress on a contract extension with veteran defenceman Nick Seeler.
The Flyers will re-sign Nick Seeler before the trade deadline commences. If the Flyers do indeed re-sign Sean Walker, then maybe the Flyers do not have to take a bad contract back in return. Maybe that said team that he gets traded to wanted a deal in place instead
Report: #Flyers to Trade Nick Seeler or Sean Walker, Not Both https://t.co/6IomOIx8ka
Flyers trade deadline: Nick Seeler re-signs Sean Walker- traded for a 1st, young prospect (C+-B- type). That's it....
Still 3 days to go, but sounds increasingly unlikely that #Flyers will be re-signing both Sean Walker and Nick Seeler. They've got a good feel now on what both will cost. Meantime, they're fielding trade offers for both and will weigh return vs. extension. One likely traded.
I have said towards the middle of January that Nick Seeler would re-sign. I don't know why some Flyers fans are shocked. In regards to Sean Walker, maybe the team(s) that Danny Briere is looking at to move him to wants him to have it deal in place with Walker before he's traded. https://t.co/J5OFBcWJOE
Nick Seeler came back for the third period but left late in the third period. Didn’t take a shift after the 9 minute mark. During the shifts he took in the final frame he wasn’t putting a lot of pressure on his foot, resting it after ever shift on the bench. #LetsGoFlyers https://t.co/AoZvECipn3

Nick Seeler's back out for the third. He could barely get off the ice earlier. https://t.co/DMbNJcjTnM
Nick Seeler is out here for third period and seems OK. https://t.co/t3O6SHeY3m
Nick Seeler on the bench for the third period, testing out his foot. #STLvsPHI | #LetsGoFlyers
Nick Seeler comes out of the tunnel with the rest of the Flyers to start the third period. He's still clearly testing out his foot, but obviously a great sign.
Flyers and Blues tied 1-1 after 40 minutes. Obviously the big concern right now though is for Nick Seeler, who blocked a shot with his left foot and headed to the locker room early in serious pain. He's both a very important d-man for them, & a potential trade chip this week.
#Flyers Nick Seeler down the tunnel after taking a Colton Parayko slapshot off the outside of the left ankle. Had a ton of trouble getting off the ice before play was stopped when a shot went into the netting.
Nick Seeler takes a hard shot off the inner ankle, he couldn’t even get up off the ice. He immediately goes down the tunnel. #STLvsPHI | #LetsGoFlyers
Nick Seeler had to limp up the tunnel with some assistance from a team staffer. We'll see if he can come back, perhaps at the start of the third period.
Nick Seeler limping pretty good after that sequence. He heads up the tunnel for now. Shockingly, he blocked a shot with his left foot, and it clearly stung. Fingers crossed he's okay.
Nick Seeler is having real trouble after blocking a shot. Skating back to bench on his own but limps right up the tunnel.
Nick Seeler is an asset on and off the ice, and one the Flyers do not want to trade #Flyers #LetsGoFlyers https://t.co/CvUALKqliq
The bulk of Flyers trade-chatter right now centers around defenseman Sean Walker. My breakdown of where everything stands with him a week before the deadline, from what we know, to what I've heard from sources, to the logic behind each potential scenario: https://t.co/rdSNgH0WS7
What I've recently heard on the Sean Walker situation is as follows: - The two sides have swapped contract numbers & have a good understanding of where each other stands - Flyers still weighing trade offers & deciding which route to take - No contract signing is imminent
