Garnet Hathaway of the Philadelphia Flyers received a major penalty and game misconduct for a hit on Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devils. This hit resulted in Hughes leaving the ice in discomfort. John Tortorella, the Flyers' head coach, expressed dissatisfaction with the call. Additionally, Joel Farabee, a player for the Flyers, was benched for not following instructions during the game. The Flyers ultimately lost to the Devils in overtime with a score of 4-3.
Flyers were not happy with the questionable call on Garnet Hathaway. A look at John Tortorella's comments on that, the benching of Joel Farabee and more. https://t.co/NZyjdvQ234
Luke Hughes on the Hathaway hit: “It was a race to the puck, I thought I got the icing and I heard a whistle and he hit me. I probably got to protect myself there but, learn from it. Thank god I didn’t get hurt.” #NJDevils https://t.co/ODpPWPWKYv
John Tortorella on benching Joel Farabee: "Because he didn't listen." #LetsGoFlyers
Torts didn't give much re: Farabee. Why did he get benched the rest of the game after the first Devils goal? "He didn't listen."
John Tortorella said Joel Farabee was benched because he didn’t listen. The head coach didn’t want to expand on that any further.
Media asked for Joel Farabee after the game, but he declined comment. We'll soon see if Tortorella provides any insight on why he chose to bench Farabee. My guess is he'll be tight-lipped.

Flyers lose in OT, 4-3. Jack Hughes to Luke Hughes.
The ref didn’t blow the whistle for icing and Garnet Hathaway blew up Luke Hughes as a result. Hathaway awarded a 5 minute major and game misconduct for the hit. Refs fault. #NJDvsPHI | #LetsGoFlyers https://t.co/kQguBhILJx

The refs have been horrible for a few weeks now. Take hitting out of the game, what a terrible call on Garnet Hathaway. That was a clean heavy hit #Flyers

John Tortorella has every right to be mad on why Garnet Hathaway received a major penalty for the high on Hughes. It was a heavy hit, nothing more, nothing less
Flyers are down 2-0 and Garnet Hathaway was just hit with a five-minute major for boarding Luke Hughes. Hughes appeared to have the puck and turned toward Hathaway as the Flyers' winger hit him. John Tortorella was irate with the call.
It's still a major and a game misconduct for Hathaway. They give Hathaway a boarding call, I guess because they deemed it too dangerous a hit that close to the boards. Still, that's a hit that I bet doesn't even generate a minor if Hughes doesn't get hurt.
Game misconduct + 5-minute major for Hathaway.
Hathaway gets a game misconduct as well. #NJDevils
Hathaway thrown out of the game for his hit on Luke Hughes #NJDevils
Game misconduct and a 5-minute major for Hathaway.
Hathaway is being called for a major after he sent Luke Hughes into the endboards. Sorry for the mistake before... a lot going on.
Garnet Hathaway given a major for plowing over Luke Hughes on an icing. Hughes' left elbow/shoulder went hard into the wall and he leaves the ice in discomfort
Hathaway gets a major, at least pending review. Honestly, they strikes me as more penalizing the outcome? He may have left his skates a little bit (not sure), but the puck is right there and he didn't hit him from behind.
Garnet Hathaway assessed a major penalty for his hit on Luke Hughes. #NJDevils
Hathaway getting a major penalty. #NJDevils to the five minute PP.
Garnet Hathaway with a massive hit on Luke Hughes. Hughes didn't look good
Luke Hughes just got blasted. Skates off hunched over on his own. Goes down the tunnel. That looked ugly. #NJDevils
Garnet Hathaway blows up Luke Hughes and gets swarmed by Devils. Hughes goes right up the tunnel. I'm assuming Hathaway is gonna get some kind of penalty for that one?

John Tortorella: "You get to the future, you start moving away a couple of years from now when the Mad Russian [Matvei Michkov] comes over here … I want to stay with this style." #LetsGoFlyers
