The Philadelphia Flyers, led by General Manager Danny Briere, are dealing with the repercussions of the Hockey Canada investigation. Briere, adhering to NHL directives, stated that the team would respond to the investigation's outcomes once they are public. Attorney Scott Fenton, representing Flyers' goaltender Carter Hart, stated in 2022 that Hart did not engage in any wrongdoing related to the 2018 Team Canada sex scandal. Meanwhile, Briere has expressed confidence in 24-year-old goaltender Samuel Ersson's potential as a future No. 1 NHL goaltender, while also acknowledging the team's positive trajectory under coach John Tortorella. Reports indicate that five charges are expected in the Hockey Canada case, which continues to cast a shadow over the sport.
John Tortorella: "If there is a concern, we are taking too many penalties " #Flyers
John Tortorella: "We are struggling to make plays. We have to help one another. We just have to keep on fighting, and try to get some breaks our way." #Flyers
Jamie Drysdale in. Looks like Risto and Staal out. Flyers will go with a traditional 12F,6D https://t.co/mwwqSLnhhp
We know the number now. We'll surely know their names soon. As five charges reportedly loom in the Hockey Canada case, the sport can no longer hide. My column: https://t.co/5t9DfFWWEs
Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere outlines the trade deadline #Flyers #letsgoflyers https://t.co/bFWqpzdJco
John Tortorella on any question pertaining to Carter Hart: "I’m not answering any questions on Carter, or anything dealing with Carter. That belongs to the league.” #Flyers
John Tortorella on Jamie Drysdale: "He's been playing well, good offensively. I think he's going to fit in the style we want him to play." #Flyers
John Tortorella on the 11F/7D system: "Players make the call who we put out on the ice." He means that if they are playing well, how can you take that said player out of the lineup. All seven dmen are playing well at the moment, I agree with him. #Flyers
The key quote for me yesterday from Danny Briere: "I expect Torts to be here for a while. I like how the team is molding." Unless this is a smoke screen, Torts will be the coach for an extended period of time, rightfully so. He's a great coach. #Flyers
Danny Briere held an approximately 24-minute presser today. Among the topics: 🔔 Statement on Carter Hart 🔔 Approach to the trade deadline 🔔 Praise for Torts' handling of young players More ⤵️ https://t.co/Cbw1sPBwwe
My piece from today's media availability with Danny Briere: https://t.co/Cbw1sPBwwe
Danny Briere: "I've been really happy with the Veterans and John Tortorella, his coaching staff they've done a tremendous job." Credits Cam York 's and Egor Zamula's development #Flyers
Danny Briere stated that re-signing Sam Ersson this past Summer and keeping Felix Sandström around had nothing to do with the Carter Hart Hockey Canada investigation.
Danny Briere: "It's been exciting how our team play this year. I think it starts with the culture, the culture change. I really believe this started last year with John Tortorella. One thing we keep hearing from other teams is that we are really hard to play against."
Danny Briere: "We don't what is going to happen with Carter. The team has put themselves in a great situation, that's the exciting part. The other exciting part is that Sam Ersson has taken a big step forward. We will have to protect him as much as we can, he's still developing"
Danny Briere opens his presser: "We are aware of this morning’s press reports on a very serious matter. We will respond appropriately when the outcomes of the investigations are made public." #Flyers
The Flyers and Danny Briere were handcuffed today. Of course, Briere couldn't comment on such, but now it's time to clear those names involved in the Hockey Canada investigation, and charge those responsible for this heinous crime that was committed Let's see how this pans out
Danny Briere led off today's press conference with a statement: “We are aware of this morning’s press reports on a very serious matter. We will respond appropriately when the outcomes of the investigations are made public. The NHL has been very clear that teams should refer...
Basically, Briere didn't -- and per the NHL's directive, couldn't -- say anything about today's report. That said, that the Flyers were directed to stay quiet, in tandem with the timing of Hart's leave of absence, is fairly telling as to a possible connection between the two.
Danny Briere did make an opening statement on Hockey Canada. The NHL told teams to direct any questions regarding the ongoing Hockey Canada investigation to the league.
“I love how we come into games thinking we’re going to win the game. … We’re going in the right direction.” - Danny Briere on Flyers’ standard/culture
Danny Briere on Nick Seeler being in Philadelphia for the future: “Definitely. He’s a great piece. Well loved by his teammates, a big reason why this team is having success.” Briere told the press. “I don’t want to ahead of myself, still a lot of time before the deadline.”…
Danny Briere said Flyers are confident in Samuel Ersson’s ability to be a No. 1, but they’re going to be careful with him. They understand he’s young (24) and still developing.
Briere says that he does believe that Sam Ersson has the upside of being a No. 1 goaltender for an NHL team. Said they have to be careful putting too much pressure on him and he's still young. But they believe he can be a top-of-the-depth-chart goalie over the long-term.
Danny Briere believes Samuel Ersson can be a No. 1 goaltender in the NHL: “I absolutely believe that but still you don’t want to put too much pressure early.” Briere told the media. #LetsGoFlyers
Danny Briere made opening statement that NHL has told teams to direct any questions regarding investigation and report on Hockey Canada to the league. Flyers have to respect investigation without comment. https://t.co/ScttYA8bnj
I firmly believe that charges are speeding up this Hockey Canada investigation with the NHL. Charges change a lot of things, hence the reason the report may actually come out now
About time. Everyone with Hockey Canada who had a hand in covering this up should also be charged. https://t.co/QC7lVg9BGL
Danny Briere may not address the Carter Hart situation today. In 2022, attorney Scott Fenton, representing Hart, told the Toronto Star, that the goalie did not engage in any wrongdoing in the 2018 Team Canada sex scandal. (Part 1)
