During a closely contested hockey game, the Vegas Golden Knights faced off against the Florida Panthers, with both teams displaying strong defensive efforts. Despite multiple power play opportunities, including two separate 5-on-3 advantages for 1:21, the Golden Knights were unable to capitalize on their chances due to weak puck movement and shots off target. The Panthers, on the other hand, successfully killed off all three of their early second-period penalties, including the 5-on-3s, maintaining a 1-1 scoreline even without key players Barkov and Rodrigues. However, the Panthers took the lead with a power play goal by Matthew Tkachuk, bringing the score to 2-1. The goal came as a result of a perfect tip from Tkachuk, despite the Golden Knights' aggressive penalty killing and a remarkable save by their goaltender Logan Thompson just moments before, and after a high sticking penalty by Niko Mikkola. The game also featured a scuffle between Sam Bennett and Zach Whitecloud, which resulted in penalties for both players.
Chucky’s Back. Matthew Tkachuk gets his second in as many games from the net front on the power play. 2-1 Panthers.
Power play goal Matthew Tkachuk - #FlaPanthers 2-1
Huge momentum shift as #VGK doesn't score on 5 on 3 and just gave up a goal. Down 2-1.
VGK have been SUPER aggressive penalty killing tonight. It has not worked. Couldn't secure the clear and left Tkachuk right in front. Thompson made one terrific save on that PK, but had no chance on that one. It's 2-1 FLA despite VGK playing quite well.
And then. Matthew Tkachuk. Perfect tip. 2-1 Florida. Power play goal. Special teams issues remain a story.
2-1 Florida on a nifty redirect by Tkachuk.
Logan Thompson made an incredible stop on a cross-seam one-timer, but then Vegas leaves Tkachuk all alone in front of the net, and he tips it home to give Florida a 2-1 lead.
And the Panthers convert. Matthew Tkachuk on the deflection. Golden Knights once again couldn't clear, even after a great save by Thompson seconds prior. 2-1 Florida
you gotta be tkachuking kidding me 2-1 cats
GOAL! Cats strike on the power play! Tkachuk makes it 2-1.
#FlaPanthers get a power play 5:26 into the second period. Meanwhile, Sam Bennett is headed into the dressing room for repairs after getting into a skirmish with Zach Whitecloud. (Whitecloud and Bennett only got two each for their scuffle, with an extra two going to VGK.)
VGK squandered 5-on-3, 5-on-4 power play advantages there -- weak puck movement and shots off the mark. Still, 1-1, between Vegas, Florida
What a penalty kill for the #FlaPanthers - 2 separate 5on3s without Barkov and Rodrigues and it’s still 1-1
#FlaPanthers kill off all three of their early second-period penalties.
Cats kill off an eternity of power play time for Vegas. VGK had two extended 5-on-3's in that span.
The Panthers committed three penalties in a three-minute span, and the Golden Knights had a 5-on-3 twice. They did not score.
The Panthers kill off the first penalty only to have Ekblad join Kulikov in the box for hooking. Another VGK 5-on-3, this one for 1:21
VGK with a juicy 5 on 3 for 1:21. It's 1-1 w/ Florida.
Now it's going to be a 5-on-3 for 1:21. Ekblad going to the box for hooking as the Mikkola penalty expired.
the 5-on-3 ended and now we have another one 😂
After getting 30 seconds of 5-on-3, VGK will now get another 1:21. Got to get one here to retake the lead.
Dmitry Kulikov with a slew foot on Mark Stone in front of the net, and Vegas will get a short 5-on-3.
they messed with the captain and now we're on a 5-on-3
#FlaPanthers to the PK 35 seconds into the second. Niko Mikkola is off for high sticking.
mind if we go on the power play again? https://t.co/26NXCCSw5M
Carrier gets a high stick. Niko Mikkola goes to the box. Vegas to the power play early.
