Chris Tanev, defenseman for the Dallas Stars, returned to the Stars bench after briefly leaving the ice following a collision with Nathan MacKinnon. Tanev had previously taken a big hit from Ross Colton near the end of Game 4, causing him to stay off the ice for two days. Despite starting Game 5 with a hit to the face and losing at least one tooth, Tanev continued to play. Stars coach Peter DeBoer confirmed that Tanev had a tooth pulled before returning to the game. He later received a two-minute penalty for cross-checking Mikko Rantanen in the face during a scrum.

Not sure why the Tanev penalty was not a double minor.... there was obvious blood coming from Rantanen's nose #Avs #GoAvsGo @TheRinkColorado https://t.co/16LRJv5HwH
