The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in a shootout. In the second period, Cotter scored a power play goal to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Carrier later scored on a delayed penalty to make it 2-1. Montreal tied the game in the third period, leading to overtime. With no goals in OT, the game went to a shootout, where Marchessault and Theodore scored for Vegas. The Knights are now 9-0-1 this season.
My column on how playing lacrosse as a kid helped Canadiens' Sean Monahan become a better hockey player and also taught him importance of winning faceoffs. He won 20 of his 24 faceoffs last night and scored goal in 3-2 shootout loss to Vegas #Habs #HabsIO: https://t.co/94750aPldt
My story on the Canadiens putting up an impressive fight and gaining some confidence in 3-2 shootout loss to the defending Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights last night in Las Vegas. #Habs now have a 5-2-2 record #HabsIO: https://t.co/HaIMHatWVk
Vegas improves to NHL-best 9-0-1 with shootout win over Canadiens. 🔥 https://t.co/XTXkQ8SdnA https://t.co/zTs6MSgb8L
Knights prevail in shootout 3-2 in what was a wild and wacky game. Was third game in four nights and they’re 9-0-1 overall.
Final- Vegas 3, Montreal 2 in a shootout. The Golden Knights improve to 9-0-1 on the season. They're on pace for 156 points. I say they do it.
Knights win in a shootout. Marchessault and Theodore got the goals. They're 9-0-1 this season.
End of OT, 2-2. Vegas had as many shots in OT as they did the third period.
For the second straight game, the Knights are going to a shootout.
Vegas get the kill. Excellent work on the PK for Vegas tonight.
Another good kill for Vegas. Golden Knights still lead 2-1 with 5:40 to play.
Eichel nearly scored a short-handed goal on the PK, but the Knights were surviving by the end. Looked like Newhook hit the cross bar late. As much as Hill struggled to play the puck tonight, he's been good at stopping it.
Knights lead 2-1 after two. Not their best period of hockey by any stretch. But they still scored a goal, and the only one they allowed was a giveaway by their goaltender. SOG 20-14 Montreal.
End of the second, 2-1 Vegas. If Vegas played a solid first, the second was a complete 180. Luckily for the Golden Knights, Will Carrier found a way to wrestle back the lead.
Hague and Hill sacrifice themselves for William Carrier to score on the delayed penalty. Just like they drew it up. 2-1
Carrier on a delayed penalty to give the Knights a 2-1 lead w/1:50 to go in the second. Hill appeared hurt and labored skating to the bench after making a save. But he's back in net.
Nic Hague was undercut. No call. Then, Adin Hill was run over. He was laboring to get off the ice for the extra attacker on the delayed penalty. Then, Will Carrier scored a tap-in on a great set up from Stephenson. 2-1 Vegas.
Stephenson feeds Carrier off the rush on a delayed penalty. 2-1 Knights, 1:50 left in the second.
There's just under six minutes left in the second period and the Knights have 1, count 'em, 1 SOG this period. That's kinda Raideresque when it comes to offense, n'est pas?
Hague called for tripping Harvey-Pinard behind the Knights net. Montreal has a 10-0 edge in SOG this period and is going on the power play with 7:07 left in the second.
There’s 8:23 left here in the second period. Vegas has not registered a shot. They’ve had two power plays in the period.
Kolesar with shorty chance, but no dice. Knights do kill the Howden penalty, still 1-1 midway through the second.
Cotter almost completes an insane move slipping between two defenders on a delayed penalty, but his shot hits the post. Slafkovsky called for high sticking Hague. Knights back on the power play.
Vegas back to the power play. Mike Matheson for boarding.
Cotter draws a boarding penalty from Matheson 43 seconds into the second. Knights get their second power play.
1-0 Knights after one. Spirited period with a lot of looks on both sides. Cotter with the (accidental) lone goal so far. SOG 12-9 Knights.
End of the first, 1-0 Vegas. Pretty solid period from Vegas. Generated some really good looks. Scored a power play goal. And didn’t give Montreal anything off the rush. All in all, you want 40 more minutes just like it.
Knights 1, Habs 0, end first period. Some good stuff from both teams. Pretty entertaining 20 minutes.
Cotter from high slot. PPG puts the Knights in front, 1-0. Karlsson, Pietrangelo the helpers at 15:06.
