The Carolina Hurricanes dominated the New York Rangers, winning 6-1. The game saw multiple penalties, with the Hurricanes capitalizing on their power plays. Jack Drury and Andrei Svechnikov scored power play goals, while Jordan Martinook and Jalen Chatfield also contributed to the Hurricanes' victory. Sebastian Aho and Alexis Lafreniere faced booing from the crowd. The Rangers struggled to convert their power play opportunities, with Pyotr Kochetkov making 28 saves for the Hurricanes.
Andrei Svechnikov scored twice and Pyotr Kochetkov made 28 saves as the Hurricanes beat the #Rangers on Tuesday for their fourth-straight win. https://t.co/C3Kr4DAmpB
First 4-game winning streak of the season for the @Canes. 6-1 win over the Rangers thanks to a dominant 3rd period. 🥉 Aho 🥈 Martinook 💰 Svechnikov
That's easily the Canes' best win of the season. Had to have it if you wanted to start a push for the division. I know the Rangers have two games in hand but that's a massive two-game swing from possibly nine points back to within five.
FINAL: The Rangers get trounced 6-1 against Carolina. They couldn’t capitalize on their power plays and gave up two goals to the Canes’ power play. Carolina pulled away with a three-goal third.
W! The #Canes pick up their largest margin of victory this season, beating the league-leading Rangers by five. The power play strikes twice and the penalty kill is perfect again in a 6-1 victory. https://t.co/VhgroINq0E
Wheeler sent off for tripping. #NYR, down 5-1, are shorthanded for the fourth time. Carolina has scored two PPGs in their first three attempts.
Andrei Svechnikov gets behind the #NYR D on a breakaway and capitalizes, Canes lead 5-1
Did someone order a ✈️ ticket to Chatmandu? Jalen Chatfield extends the #Canes lead to 4-1 in the third period! #CauseChaos https://t.co/fIlBI6d3bV
Man I just love what the Canes are doing right now. PK comes up big and then Chatfield scores a huge goal to push the lead to three
Jalen Chatfield makes it a 4-1 game... #NYR
With Martinook screening Shesterkin, Chatfield zings a puck over the goalie's shoulder and scores to extend Carolina's lead to 4-1.
40 minutes down, 20 (or more) to go at MSG. 3-1, #Canes. The Rangers certainly came with some pushback in the second, but the visitors did a nice job of capitalizing on their error and simultaneously earning back their cushion.
The refs definitely missed one when Mika was getting held in the first period, but now the #NYR find themselves on the advantageous end of questionable judgment from the refs. Martin Necas is called for holding, but it didn't look like it to me. Rangers to the PP.
#NYR are getting a power play with 38.1 seconds left in the period. Martin Necas is off for holding.
Goodrow takes a slashing penalty on Svechnikov entering the zone 1 on 4. #NYR playing a Canes team operating at peak Canes tonight and having trouble gaining traction
And now, CAR is going on their third power play when we return. They are 2-for-2 so far. Goodrow has been called for slashing. #NYR
Goodrow off for slashing, sending Carolina back to the PP. They're 2-for-2 so far.
Erik Gustafsson leaves the puck for no one and Igor Shesterkin tries to settle it, but Jordan Martinook buries a pass from Staal, #NYR trail 3-1
That's a big, big goal from Martinook. Canes really needed the two-goal lead back with the Rangers grabbing some momentum
But the #Canes answer right back! Some pressure in the attacking end allows Jordan Staal to set up Jordan Martinook all alone in front. 3-1!
#NYR too slow with their decisions and Carolina restores its 2-goal lead. Miscommunication by Gustafsson and Schneider, Shesterkin tries to settle but Canes get to pucks and Martinook taps in a Staal feed at 6:32
Seth Jarvis just robbed Mika Zibanejad of a between the legs goal. The Rangers go to the power play, though, after Martinook slashed Miller, whose breakaway led to the Zibanejad rebound chance.
Now Miller and Zibanejad shake loose for another prime #NYR chance, including a Mika shot in between his legs that was saved by CAR forward Seth Jarvis. No goal, but Mika draws a penalty in the process. Rangers to the PP for the second time.
K'Andre breaks in and shoots, save, Mika tries to put the rebound in while shooting between the legs, it won't go, but the #NYR get a power play, as Jordan Martinook is called for slashing.
Miller foiled by Kochetkov and Zibanejad foiled (between the legs!) by Jarvis on the rebound. #NYR power play 1:44 into the second
End 1, #NYR trail 0-2 on PPGs by Drury & Svechnikov. SOG are 12-8, Rangers. Per @NatStatTrick, scoring chances are 4-4, and HD chances 2-1, CAR, at 5-on-5. FOs are 12-9, CAR. Adam Fox leads the Rangers in ice time, with 7:49.
Make that 10 of the last 19 chances for the #Canes PP as they stay super nova hot. Svech adds another PPG and it’s 2-0 #Canes after 20. #CauseChaos https://t.co/0pr6C2cRV9
Jacob Trouba got called for holding Sebastian Aho and let the officials know he disagreed with the call. Aho then assisted a Svechnikov goal, and NY trails 2-0. Trouba barked at the ref coming out of the box. So ends the first. Carolina scored PPGs to start and end the frame.
Fans are booing Aho, but he passes to Svechnikov and he one-times it in from the bottom of the right circle. 2 PPGs for CAR. #NYR trail, 2-0.
Now Trouba is called for holding, so Carolina will head back to the PP. #NYR are outshooting them 12-4 so far.
Thanks to their goal just 1:49 in tonight, the #Canes power play is none 9-for-their-last-18 dating back to 12/23. As hot as Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov have been, of those nine goals mentioned above, they've come from seven different scorers - now including Jack Drury. https://t.co/MrVlNwcdPC
You couldn't have asked for a better start to the night for the #Canes. The power play remains ablaze, establishing an early lead, and then the penalty kill continues humming right along with a denial of the league's best man advantage. Good stuff.
Jalen Chatfield to the box after being called for holding. #Canes on the PK 1-0 CAR | 15:36 1st
Alexis Lafreniere committed an interference penalty on Seth Jarvis, and Jack Drury makes the Rangers pay, beating Shesterkin on the power play. Sebastian Aho heard boos every time he touched the puck on the Canes power play. 1-0 Carolina
Sebastian Aho, who was on one end of the collision that injured Adam Fox the last time these teams played, is getting booed every time he touches the puck.
Only took 30 seconds for the first penalty in this one. Laf off for interference, #NYR to the PK.
