The Vancouver Canucks dominated the second period against the Edmonton Oilers in their Stanley Cup Playoffs series, outshooting them 18-4 and outscoring them 1-0. The Canucks outshot Edmonton 12-2 at 5-on-5 in the second period. The Canucks' aggressive forecheck and penalty kill were particularly effective, as the Oilers failed to capitalize on their power play opportunities, going 0 for 5. The Oilers managed just 3 shots on goal in 7:40 of power play time. The series is tied 2-2, and the game is also tied 2-2. Notably, new father PDG scored the goal for Vancouver.
#Canucks playing with their balls on the crest tonight. Need to find a way to make all the effort pay off
#Canucks outshot Edmonton 12-2 at 5-on-5 in the 2nd period. Even though the Oilers PP went O-fer, the frequency of 5-on-4 play probably permitted Edmonton to survive VAN's push. An absolute mauling with almost no relationship to what we saw in Games 2, 3 and 4 of this series.
Best period for Canucks since Game 1. 18 shots. 4 for Oilers. 2 VAN PKs. 1 goal for new father PDG. 2-2 in series, 2-2 in game. What a series.
Not a good period for the Oilers. They were outshot 18-4 and outscored 1-0. I guess the positive for them is it was *only* 1-0.
Hockey media is desperate for the Oilers to advance. The stink is radiating off all of them https://t.co/JlvCHp7jcG
incredibly the Oilers have just 3 shots on goal in 7:40 of power play time. #Canucks have 2 short-handed shots in that span
Oilers’ PP now 0 for 5 Tonight. Canucks’ aggressive PK has been very good tonight. #StanleyCupPlayoffs
Oilers are just trying to survive this period. They need to fix their breakout at intermission, because the #Canucks forecheck has been completely dominant in the second. Easily Vancouver's best frame of the playoffs + not even a steady flow of weird whistles can obscure it.
