Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche was shoved into the endboards by Buffalo's Kyle Okposo, resulting in periodic trips to the dressing room for Makar. Makar's teammates and coach Jared Bednar expressed dissatisfaction with the hit. Okposo explained that he didn't intend to push Makar and was relieved that Makar was okay. The Buffalo Sabres went on to win the game 4-0, with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen earning his first NHL shutout. The win was seen as a confidence booster for the Sabres.

Typically, Tristan Jarry’s post-game quotes are as revealing as swimsuit from the 1920s. But, to his credit, he took ownership of his struggles after Monday’s crushing loss. “I’ve got to get out and make a save,” the goalie said. “That’s the bottom line.” https://t.co/xq9zFeSigo

My observations from the Sabres’ 4-0 win over the Avs: UPL’s first NHL shutout, Kyle Okposo spoke to Cale Makar after the scary fall into the boards and another good game for JJ Peterka. “… we just have to try to bottle that up.” https://t.co/u9Ql7pucGU
Fair or not, the knock on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is his inability to make big saves at critical times. On Sunday, he made a huge one early that propelled to the #Sabres to a 4-0 win. More on the #Buffalo goalie's first NHL shutout: https://t.co/lF4ZbNL9cL
My latest column: #Sabres get a win that finally plays up to their preseason billing by blanking #Avs. “That’s a good measuring stick for us. ... To have it against a team like that, that’s a new standard for us, and it’s got to be continued.” https://t.co/TCZytOFlWz
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped everything he faced to earn his first NHL shutout, and the Sabres put forth one of their best efforts in a 4-0 win against the Avalanche. "It's really a confidence booster." https://t.co/puRIROdnbD
A Sabres shutout win against Colorado? You weren't expecting that, were you? https://t.co/l1ZVN5xSNo
“I feel like I’m a better goalie than I was last year." My observations from the Sabres' shutout of the Avs, including Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's game-changing saves, another strong game by JJ Peterka and Kyle Okposo's reaction to the Cale Makar collision. https://t.co/u9Ql7pucGU
#Avs coach Jared Bednar said he didn’t love the way Kyle Okposo played the situation that led to Cale Makar crashing into the boards. Also said he wished the officials had thicker skin when MacKinnon got the 2+10 right after they missed a call/decided not to call anything.
Cale Makar: “I think a lot of it is on me, just going back slow, no effort. … I tried to take a stride in front and I don’t know if I caught myself or what happened. But the next thing I knew I just was sliding on the boards.” Makar’s teammates and Bednar didn’t like the hit.
Neither Cale Makar nor Ryan Johansen said anything inflammatory about the play that ended with him into the boards. Makar said he thinks he’ll be fine, and he just got lucky.
Kyle Okposo spoke to Cale Makar briefly after the game and explained that he wasn’t trying to push him or apply pressure to cause that collision with the end boards. Okposo tried a stick lift, then intended to skate around Makar to the right. Okposo was relieved Makar is OK.
NEW 📰 @MileHighSports Cale Makar was shoved into the endboards by Buffalo's Kyle Okposo, who escaped without a penalty. Makar returned in the third period but periodically made trips back to the dressing room the rest of the way. https://t.co/WofwGV6iIL
