The St. Louis Blues had a strong start in their game against the Colorado Avalanche, with Brayden Schenn, Sammy Blais, and Colton Parayko all having quality scoring opportunities. However, Schenn made a costly turnover that led to a goal by the Avalanche's Cale Makar, making the score 4-1. The goal was the result of a good forecheck by Artturi Lehkonen and some defensive mistakes by the Blues. Despite the setback, the Blues had a solid penalty kill and prevented the New Jersey Devils from entering their zone.
Very impressive first PK of the night for the Blues. Best chance came from Brandon Saad shorthanded, and they didn't allow Jersey entry into the zone.
That goal started off with some good work by the Blues, with Schenn backchecking MacKinnon and Parayko riding him into the boards. But Schenn turns it over, and then Kyrou watched MacKinnon skate to the middle and Saad leaves Byram unattended for the open shot, 4-1. #stlblues
Byram snipes a MacKinnon pass, and it's 4-1. Terrible turnover by Schenn, who gave it right to MacKinnon, but a hard forecheck by Lehkonen caused it.
MacKinnon to Byram. 4-1 #Avs
Great start for the Blues so far. Brayden Schenn, Sammy Blais and Colton Parayko all with quality looks, and now the first power play of the evening for St. Louis.
