A recent study published in Cell on September 12, 2024, reveals that the common diabetes drug metformin has significant anti-aging effects in male monkeys. The study, which involved 40 months of treatment with randomly assigned controls, showed that metformin led to a regression of brain aging by approximately six years. It also prevented brain atrophy and enhanced cognitive abilities, with minimal impact on blood sugar levels. The geroprotective effects were assessed using a pan-omic clock assessment. This research suggests that while dying is inevitable, the aging process as we know it can be delayed.
