Recent findings from the CARBIS randomized controlled trial (RCT) suggest that dietary treatments may be more effective than medications for managing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The study, published in The Lancet, indicates that a combination of low-FODMAP and traditional IBS dietary advice had a 76% response rate, outperforming the low-carb, fiber-optimized diet with increased protein and fat, which had a 71% response rate. Optimized medical therapy had the lowest response at 58%. These results, discussed on MedTwitter and GITwitter, highlight the potential of dietary interventions over pharmacological solutions in treating IBS symptoms.
