Ecuador, once one of the most peaceful countries in Latin America, is now facing a surge in drug-related violence. Recently, drug gangs stormed a live TV broadcast, escalating the level of terror. The U.S. has designated Venezuela's leader, Nicolás Maduro, as a dictator who has turned his nation into a hub for drugs and narco-terrorism. Nonetheless, Maduro is offering aid to Ecuador to control the violence. Ecuadorian security forces stormed a major prison complex, and police arrested the alleged killers of a prosecutor. The family of 'Fito' Macías, the main figure held responsible for the violence, was deported to Ecuador on an Argentine Air Force plane after their arrest in Córdoba. Tom Phillips reported on the situation, and Peru's foreign minister @J_GonzalezOFr has voiced concerns about the regional impact of the violence, proposing measures to address the rise in organized crime.
