Bomb Cyclone Hits Sydney, Leaving 35,000 Homes Without Power, Canceling 87 Flights, and Spilling Main Dam

A powerful bomb cyclone has struck Sydney and the New South Wales (NSW) coast, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and hazardous surf conditions that have caused widespread disruptions across southeastern Australia. The storm has resulted in flash flooding, toppling trees, flooding roads, and knocking out power to over 35,000 homes. Approximately five million people have been affected, with many forced to take shelter. Transportation infrastructure has been severely impacted, with train lines suspended and at least 87 flights canceled, including numerous domestic flights by Qantas and Virgin Australia at Sydney Airport.

Emergency crews have responded to nearly 1,900 weather-related incidents across the region. Sydney’s main dam has spilled over due to the torrential rain, and authorities have issued flood emergency warnings. The bomb cyclone is expected to continue bringing damaging winds and wild weather to NSW, prolonging travel chaos and power outages.
