India’s 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi rewrote the record books on Saturday by reaching a century in just 52 deliveries—the fastest known hundred in Youth One-Day Internationals—during the fourth U19 ODI against England at New Road, Worcester. The left-hander went on to blast 143 from 78 balls, peppering the ground with 13 fours and 10 sixes as India piled up 363 for 9 from their 50 overs. Suryavanshi’s assault eclipsed the previous Youth-ODI mark of 63 balls set by Pakistan’s Qasim Akram in 2022. His fireworks put India firmly in command of the five-match series, which the visitors now lead 2–1. The century followed another standout performance three days earlier in Northampton, where the teenager hammered 86 off 31 balls—including a 20-ball half-century, the second-quickest by an Indian at this level—and a record nine sixes. That innings underpinned a rain-shortened four-wicket victory that gave India the series advantage. With scores of 48, 45, 86 and 143 so far on the tour, Suryavanshi has amassed 322 runs at a strike rate well above 200, underscoring the prodigy’s rapid rise only months after impressing in the Indian Premier League. The sides meet again on Monday for the penultimate match of the series.
