Noem Accompanies ICE Raid on California Home; DHS Says Target Was Convicted Mexican Trafficker, Not Pregnant Resident

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on Thursday accompanied Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers during an early-morning raid on a residence in California, according to video footage and agency statements. About half a dozen vehicles and heavily armed, masked agents converged on the home while Noem, wearing a bulletproof vest and cap, observed from the street. Homeland Security said the operation targeted the family’s Mexican husband, who had been deported previously and returned illegally. The man was convicted of drug trafficking in February and had an attempted-murder charge pleaded down to assault, the department added. ICE agents carried a warrant for his arrest and plan to pursue jail time before a second deportation. Initial local reports framed the incident as a raid on a pregnant mother of four, prompting criticism online. DHS, Rep. Chip Roy and others dismissed that portrayal as inaccurate, stressing that the warrant was directed solely at the husband and not at the expectant mother or her children.
