The Irish government has decided not to procure a new service contract for the National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) after November 2025, ending two decades of support for tech startups. Operations will continue as usual until that date, and plans are in place to manage and support ongoing investments. The decision has drawn criticism from various stakeholders in the tech community, highlighting the NDRC's positive impact on the Irish tech ecosystem and its role in the development of numerous successful companies, including Brightflag, Boxever, FrescoCooks, Logentries, and Qualio. In response to the impending closure, Web Summit has pledged to underwrite €100,000 in 2025 for ten seed-stage Irish startups, providing them with a global platform to pitch and exhibit at no cost.
