U.S. federal law-enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance of suspected Iran-backed operatives on American soil as President Donald Trump considers military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, CBS News reported on Thursday. FBI Director Kash Patel recently ordered expanded monitoring of potential sleeper cells linked to Hezbollah, the Iran-supported group designated as a terrorist organisation by Washington. The move follows Israel’s Operation Rising Lion offensive earlier this month and reflects concern that Tehran or its proxies could launch retaliatory attacks inside the United States. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump will decide within two weeks whether to target Iran’s underground uranium-enrichment complex at Fordo, potentially aligning U.S. forces with Israel’s campaign. The White House and the FBI declined to comment on the domestic surveillance measures. U.S. security officials have long warned of Iran’s capacity to orchestrate violence abroad. Prosecutors last year charged members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with plotting to kill critics of the regime, and previous cases revealed Hezbollah operatives scouting civilian sites across the country. The stepped-up monitoring underscores Washington’s assessment that any strike on Iran could be met with reprisals from Tehran’s global network of proxies, raising the stakes for both domestic security and Middle-East escalation.
