Senate Confirms Olivia Trusty to FCC, Securing 2–1 Republican Majority

The U.S. Senate voted 53–45 on Tuesday to confirm Olivia Trusty as a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission, filling the remainder of a term that expires on June 30. Trusty was nominated by President Donald Trump and was supported by all Republicans and one Democrat, Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania. Her confirmation shifts control of the three-member regulatory body to a 2–1 Republican majority, ending a period of stalemate following the recent departures of two commissioners. The change gives FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, a fellow Republican, the votes needed to advance the party’s policy agenda on telecommunications, broadband deployment and media ownership.
