The Israel Defense Forces on 14 June 2025 issued a public apology after publishing a missile-range graphic of Iran that incorrectly portrayed India’s borders, showing Jammu and Kashmir as part of Pakistan and omitting other Indian territories. The map, released a day earlier on the IDF’s official channels, also labeled parts of the northeast as Nepal. The image sparked immediate criticism from Indian media and social-media users, prompting the IDF to withdraw the graphic and replace it with a revised version. In its statement the army said the illustration "failed to precisely depict borders" and was “not intended to represent official national boundaries.” Observers noted that even the corrected map still left some disputed areas inaccurately marked. The incident unfolded amid heightened Israel-Iran tensions, underscoring the diplomatic sensitivities surrounding cartography in geopolitical communications. While New Delhi has not formally commented, the swift apology reflects Israel’s effort to limit fallout with a key strategic partner in South Asia.
