The Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, held its Passing Out Parade for the Spring Term 2025, commissioning a total of 419 new officers into the Indian Army. The ceremony was reviewed by Lieutenant General BKGM Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and an alumnus of the IMA. Alongside the Indian cadets, 32 foreign cadets, including two from Sri Lanka, were commissioned. The Sri Lankan officers included RMNL Rathnayake, son of Brigadier RMSP Rathnayake. The number of Sri Lankan Army officers commissioned from the IMA now totals 296. During the parade, top honors were awarded to Anil Nehra, who received the Sword of Honour, and Ronit Ranjan, who was awarded the Gold Medal. Lieutenant General Rodrigo also presented medals to the officer cadets and praised their discipline and drill. His visit to India from June 11 to 14, 2025, reinforced the longstanding military ties between India and Sri Lanka. Additionally, Lieutenant General Rodrigo met with General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff of India, at Sena Bhavan to discuss defense cooperation and regional stability. The Passing Out Parade at IMA is a significant event marking the induction of new officers into the Indian Army and highlights the continued collaboration between the Indian and Sri Lankan military forces.
