The Houston Rockets have agreed to a long-term contract extension with head coach Ime Udoka that will elevate him into the league’s highest-paid coaching bracket, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Specific financial terms were not disclosed, though Charania described the pact as an eight-figure deal. Udoka, 47, has overseen a rapid turnaround since arriving in 2023. Houston posted a 52-30 record this season, securing the franchise’s first top-two seed in the Western Conference in seven years and its first playoff appearance since 2019-20. The Rockets have won 93 regular-season games in his two years on the bench, after managing just 59 combined wins over the previous three campaigns. The extension comes days after the New York Knicks sought—and were refused—permission to interview Udoka for their coaching vacancy. Locking in Udoka follows Houston’s move last week to re-sign center Steven Adams to a three-year, $39 million contract; the club still faces a decision on guard Fred VanVleet’s $44.9 million team option before month-end.
