Gun Owners File Motion for Summary Judgment Challenging Florida Open Carry Ban Citing Second and Fourteenth Amendments; NRA Joins US v. Brown Case

The Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the Gun Owners Foundation (GOF) have filed a motion for summary judgment challenging Florida's ban on the open carry of firearms. The lawsuit argues that the ban violates both the Second and Fourteenth Amendments and lacks historical or traditional justification under the Supreme Court's Bruen decision. The groups contend that the ban forces law-abiding Floridians to conceal their right to bear arms, which they say is unconstitutional. GOA has also indicated ongoing litigation in Illinois against Governor Pritzker related to firearm regulations and continues lobbying efforts with Congress, the Trump administration, and state governments to protect Second Amendment rights. Separately, the National Rifle Association (NRA) joined in filing an amicus brief in the Fifth Circuit case United States v. Brown, arguing that the federal prohibition on machine gun possession is unconstitutional as applied to the defendant.
