The National Hurricane Center is monitoring three tropical waves in the Atlantic, including one in the Caribbean, but forecasters say none show immediate signs of tropical cyclone formation. A plume of Saharan dust reached South Florida on 13 June, lowering air quality, creating hazy skies and reducing rain chances. The dry, dusty air mass is also suppressing convection, further limiting the short-term prospects for storm development across the basin. Meteorologists attribute the quiet start to the 2025 season to an abrupt cooling of tropical Atlantic sea-surface temperatures compared with last year, even as subtropical waters remain at record highs. A particularly strong Bermuda High has strengthened trade winds, accelerating the cooldown in the main development region. Although early-season activity is subdued, forecasters note that the Gulf of Mexico is unusually warm and advise coastal residents, especially in Texas, to prepare for possible storms later in the season.
