Over 30,000 people participated in the Bucharest Pride 2025 march on June 7, marking 20 years since the first Pride parade in Romania. Organized by ACCEPT under the slogan 'Douăzeci de ani de curaj', the event took place on Calea Victoriei and concluded at Parcul Izvor with live concerts by Erika Isac and Eligarf. Participants called for civil union partnership legislation and equal rights for LGBTQ individuals, referencing a 2023 European Court of Human Rights ruling that Romania has yet to implement. ACCEPT president Teodora Roseti stated, 'We want legal protection for same-sex couples, an easy legal procedure for transitioning, protection against hate speech and prejudice-based crimes.' The march followed a recent presidential election won by Nicusor Dan over George Simion, a strong opponent of LGBTQ rights. During the election campaign, LGBTQ organizations reported a rise in hate speech and the defacement of the Mozaiq group's headquarters. The Romanian Orthodox Church condemned the timing of Bucharest Pride, which coincided with the eve of Pentecost (Rusalii), calling it provocative and inappropriate. The Church urged believers to avoid violence or offensive behavior and reiterated its stance that homosexuality contradicts Orthodox teachings. Earlier in the day, an authorized 'March for Normality' took place, following a route from Piața Victoriei to the Patriarchate, and was attended by several hundred people including Senator Diana Șoșoacă. The event featured religious symbols, prayers, and slogans supporting traditional family values, with participants carrying flags, icons, and chanting against same-sex unions. Authorities reported no major incidents. Five individuals were taken to the police for questioning after being found with a carton of eggs near the Pride march, amid suspicions they intended to disrupt the event. Anti-Pride protesters were observed carrying Celtic cross flags.
