Blue Jays Revamp Pitching Staff, Put Francis on IL and DFA Swanson

The Toronto Blue Jays overhauled their pitching staff on Tuesday, placing right-hander Bowden Francis on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement and designating reliever Erik Swanson for assignment. Imaging on Francis revealed no structural damage, only inflammation, according to manager John Schneider. Swanson, owed roughly US$1.7 million of his US$3 million 2025 salary, can be claimed by any club before he reaches free agency. To fill the vacancies, the Blue Jays recalled right-hander Paxton Schultz and selected the contract of left-hander Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Buffalo. Left-hander Eric Lauer will move into the rotation and start Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, with an 80- to 85-pitch limit. The club plans a bullpen day on Friday, with Spencer Turnbull slated for bulk innings. Schneider added that outfielder Nathan Lukes, sidelined by a concussion, will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday. Veteran right-hander Max Scherzer, currently on a rehab assignment of his own, could be activated as soon as next week if his next minor-league outing proceeds without issue.
