The United States has canceled nuclear talks with Iran that had been scheduled for Sunday in Oman, senior Trump administration officials told Reuters, the Washington Post and Axios. While the meeting is off, the officials stressed that Washington remains committed to pursuing negotiations aimed at curbing Tehran’s atomic program. U.S. officials had said on Friday that Washington "still intends" to meet Iranian envoys, but by Saturday they confirmed the session would not occur, adding, "While there will be no meeting Sunday, we remain committed to talks and hope the Iranians will come to the table soon." Iran’s Foreign Ministry earlier dismissed further talks as "meaningless." President Donald Trump acknowledged the uncertainty a day earlier, noting that the meeting was planned but might not take place and adding, "It's not too late for Iran to make a deal." A separate administration aide linked the cancellation to an Israeli strike on Iranian territory earlier in the week, which further strained the diplomatic climate. No new date for negotiations has been set. The United States says it continues to seek a diplomatic solution that would limit Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief, an effort that has stalled amid escalating regional tensions and mutual mistrust.
