French President Emmanuel Macron on 18 June called on Israel to immediately halt airstrikes that are not directly linked to Iran’s nuclear or ballistic-missile programs. The Élysée said the appeal responds to mounting concern over a widening conflict between the two countries. Macron warned that recent Israeli strikes have increasingly targeted objectives with no connection to Tehran’s weapons programs and have contributed to a growing number of civilian casualties in both Iran and Israel. He described the situation as an alarming escalation that risks further regional instability. To help de-escalate tensions, Macron announced that France will launch an initiative for what he termed a “demanding negotiated settlement” between Israel and Iran. Details of the proposed diplomatic effort were not disclosed, but Paris says it intends to engage regional and international partners to facilitate dialogue.
