Turkish Airlines resumed flights to Damascus, Syria, on Thursday, marking the first service to the Syrian capital since 2012. The flight, designated as TK 846, departed from Istanbul Airport at 9:00 AM and carried 349 passengers to Damascus International Airport. This resumption comes after a 13-year hiatus due to the Syrian civil war. The event was celebrated with ceremonies at both airports, attended by senior Turkish officials including Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz. The flight was closely monitored on FlightRadar24, becoming one of the most tracked flights globally at the time. Many Syrians expressed joy at the opportunity to return to their homeland, with some passengers carrying flags from the 2011 Syrian revolution. Turkish Airlines plans to operate three weekly flights between Istanbul and Damascus. Additionally, the Turkish Red Crescent sent approximately half a ton of medical supplies on this inaugural flight to aid the Syrian population.
