U.S. Orders 530,000 Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan Parolees to Leave

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said Thursday it has begun emailing and mailing termination notices to roughly 530,000 Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan and Venezuelan nationals who entered the country under the Biden-era CHNV humanitarian parole program. The letters cancel the recipients’ permission to live and work in the United States and instruct them to leave voluntarily or face formal deportation proceedings. DHS moved to shutter the program after the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end the initiative, which had granted two-year parole and work authorization to eligible applicants. Copies of the notices, obtained by multiple news organizations, state that both parole status and associated work permits are revoked effective immediately. The mass cancellations could have an outsized impact on communities with large diaspora populations, particularly in South Florida. Administration officials say migrants who depart promptly may avoid penalties that would bar future re-entry, while those who remain risk detention and removal. Immigration advocates have warned the abrupt policy shift may upend livelihoods and strain local economies.
