Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi has been unable to leave Tehran after Iranian authorities closed the country’s airspace amid fighting with Israel, according to multiple Italian and international media reports, including La Gazzetta dello Sport. The 32-year-old striker had been scheduled to fly to Los Angeles this weekend to join Inter’s preparations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. He remained in Tehran following Asian World Cup qualifying matches and was caught by the subsequent suspension of commercial flights out of Iran. With Taremi sidelined indefinitely, head coach Cristian Chivu is expected to rely on Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram for the Serie A champions’ tournament opener against Mexico’s Monterrey. Inter said it is in constant contact with the player and is monitoring whether flights can resume in time, but club officials now assume he will miss at least the early stages of the competition.
