Sudan Civil War Displaces 14.3 Million Including 11.6 Million Internally, Sparks Refugee Crisis and Food Insecurity

The civil war in Sudan, ongoing since April 2022, has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis marked by widespread displacement and escalating food insecurity. Over 14.3 million people have been displaced, with 11.6 million internally displaced, constituting one-third of Sudan's population and representing the largest internal displacement crisis ever recorded. Additionally, more than 1.2 million Sudanese refugees have fled to neighboring Chad. The Darfur region faces worsening conditions, with over 400,000 people fleeing Zamzam Camp amid increasing famine risks, particularly in North Darfur. Aid efforts are further complicated by drone strikes on Port Sudan, threatening critical supply routes. The conflict has also pushed 71% of the Sudanese population into extreme poverty.
