Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has strongly criticized the United States for threatening to impose sanctions on Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, calling such actions 'unacceptable' interference in Brazil's judicial system. Lula's remarks come in response to the Trump administration's potential move to label Moraes as an 'accomplice of censorship'. Lula also denounced Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, for his efforts in the U.S. to seek sanctions against Brazilian judicial authorities. Lula labeled Eduardo's actions as 'terrorist' and 'unpatriotic', emphasizing that it is inappropriate for a Brazilian deputy to involve foreign powers in domestic judicial matters. In a related development, the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) has ordered the preventive arrest of Deputy Carla Zambelli, who has left the country and is currently in the U.S. Zambelli, condemned to 10 years and 8 months in prison for her alleged involvement in a cyberattack against the National Council of Justice (CNJ) system with the help of hacker Walter Delgatti Neto, has been vocal about her intention to seek asylum from President Donald Trump, citing political persecution by the STF. The STF's First Chamber made this unanimous decision, and Zambelli's social media accounts, including those of her son and mother, have been blocked, her assets frozen, and her salary blocked. The Italian government has been formally requested by Angelo Bonelli, a deputy from the Europa Verde party and part of the Alliance of the Greens and the Left, to consider extraditing Zambelli back to Brazil. Bonelli's request follows Zambelli's claim that her Italian citizenship would protect her from extradition, a stance he deems shameful and contrary to the spirit of international cooperation. The Italian Constitution's Article 26 allows for the extradition of citizens when expressly provided for by international conventions, and cooperation treaties between Brazil and Italy, including the case of Henrique Pizzolato, set a precedent. Bonelli also criticized Zambelli's intention to connect with ultradireita leaders like Giorgia Meloni, Matteo Salvini, and Antonio Tajani, and mentioned the case of Cesare Battisti, whose extradition was influenced by Lula's 2010 decision.
