China has announced new regulations allowing wholly foreign-owned hospitals to operate in nine regions, including eight cities and one province. This initiative is intended to diversify medical services for both foreign residents and Chinese citizens. The new rules permit these hospitals to function as general, specialty, and rehabilitation facilities, although they are prohibited from engaging in medical activities that pose significant medical or ethical risks, such as human organ transplantation. This move marks a significant relaxation of long-standing restrictions on foreign investment in China's healthcare sector, aimed at enhancing foreign investment channels and improving healthcare options in the country.
