Disturbed frontman David Draiman was met with audible boos when he appeared at Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham on 5 July. Draiman, part of an all-star lineup marking Ozzy Osbourne’s last show with the original Sabbath line-up, led covers of “Sweet Leaf” and “Shot in the Dark” before an audience of about 40,000 fans. The negative reaction was widely linked to the singer’s outspoken support for Israel during its war in Gaza. In December 2023 he was photographed signing an Israeli artillery shell with the message “F*** Hamas,” and he has repeatedly defended the Israeli military’s campaign despite mounting international criticism. Posting on social media after the show, Draiman said only “a few Jew-hating morons” had booed and accused some outlets of amplifying the incident with edited audio. “I wasn’t booed off stage,” he wrote, adding that he remains “unapologetically a fiercely pro-Israel Jew” and will proceed with planned U.K. tour dates this autumn.
