Daily market recaps with key events, stock movements, and global influences
Activists aligned with the “No Kings” movement plan nationwide demonstrations on 14 June to protest President Donald Trump’s policies and to counterprogram the military parade he ordered in Washington, D.C. Organizers say rallies are scheduled in nearly 2,000 cities and towns, making it one of the largest coordinated protest efforts since the 2021 inauguration protests. The biggest turnout is expected in Philadelphia, where tens of thousands are slated to march along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Significant gatherings are also planned for New York City, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Denver, the San Francisco Bay Area and more than 80 locations across Florida. Individual events range from marches and teach-ins to visibility demonstrations at local landmarks. Trump’s parade, set for the National Mall, commemorates the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary and coincides with Flag Day and the president’s 79th birthday. Protest organizers describe the event as a “made-for-TV display of dominance” and say the coordinated actions aim to highlight what they call increasing authoritarian tendencies and corruption within the administration. City and state authorities are bracing for large crowds. The NYPD, Chicago police and departments across Texas and Colorado have announced heightened security measures, while a recent court ruling left National Guard units under presidential command for the weekend. Despite concerns over potential disruptions, organizers emphasize that the events are intended to remain peaceful.
