Azerbaijan Vows Not to Let Its Airspace Be Used for Attacks on Iran

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi in a 14 June phone call that Baku will not allow any party to use Azerbaijan’s territory or airspace to launch attacks against Iran or other nations. The assurance follows Israel’s recent strikes on Iranian targets and addresses long-standing Iranian concerns that Azerbaijani facilities could serve as a staging ground for further operations. The conversation is part of a broader diplomatic push by Tehran after the Israeli action. Araghchi has also spoken with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, the European Union’s foreign policy chief and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, seeking international condemnation of the strikes and discussing regional security. No details of additional measures were announced.
