Venture Global Begins Commercial Operations at Calcasieu Pass LNG Terminal, 12.4 Million Tons Capacity, Facing $3.5 Billion Legal Challenges

Venture Global has commenced commercial operations at its Calcasieu Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana, marking a significant milestone after more than three years since the facility began producing liquefied natural gas (LNG). The terminal, which has a capacity of 12.4 million tons per year, has started delivering long-term contractual cargoes. The commencement of operations follows a 68-month construction period. However, the company faces legal challenges from major clients, including Shell and BP, who are suing over alleged delays and a reported $3.5 billion in spot cargo sales that they claim violated long-term contracts. The first LNG cargo from the terminal is expected to be delivered to Bahrain, which is set to receive its first LNG shipment in over five years.
